A look at Toronto’s lineup heading into off-season

Who is signed, a free agent or simply won’t be re-upped after disappointing finish

- DOUG SMITH SPORTS REPORTER

Alook at the contract status and jobs for the Raptors heading into the summer:

DeMar DeRozan

Contract: Signed through 2015-16 with a player option for 2016-17. What to do: Needs to become a more vocal leader and assert himself more as the team’s elder statesman. A bit of work on his shooting range wouldn’t hurt either.

Kyle Lowry

Contract: Signed through 2016-17 with a player option for 2017-18. What to do: Regain the form of early in the 2014-15 season and maintain that level of fitness and intensity for a full season; become a better on-the-ball defender.

Terrence Ross

Contract: Going into final year of rookie deal, eligible for summer extension. What to do: Somehow find the con- sistency that’s eluded him for three seasons; work on ball handling to be able to attack rim, the one glaring failing of his offensive game.

Amir Johnson

Contract: Free agent in July. What to do: Decide whether he’ll accept inevitable backup role to return to Toronto or seek expanded duties elsewhere; consider some kind of work on his chronically bad ankles.

Jonas Valanciunas

Contract: Going into final year of rookie deal, eligible for summer extension. What to do: Work on every facet of the game, primarily decision-making with the ball in the post on offence; become a better help defender anchoring the team from the back.

Lou Williams

Contract: Free agent in July. What to do: Weigh offers knowing they might be very short-term since the salary cap will blow up in 2016; try to cash in on Sixth Man of the Year award with one big deal.

Greivis Vasquez

Contract: Signed through 2015-16. What to do: Try to ignore inevitable trade rumours that will swirl all summer; it’s too much to ask to ask him to get quicker but working on lateral movement would sure help.

Patrick Patterson

Contract: Signed through 2016-17. What to do: Work on ball-handling and post moves to augment threepoint shooting; perhaps bulk up a bit so he can defend the bigger fours in the league and stay on the court.

James Johnson

Contract: Signed through 2015-16. What to do: Not sign any long-term leases in Toronto and be prepared to be added into some summer time trade after a one-year experiment failed.

Tyler Hansbrough

Contract: Free agent. What to do: Have his agent solicit offers including the short-term, low-money one he’s likely to get from the Raptors; work on his offensive game and not falling down.

Chuck Hayes

Contract: Free agent. What to do: Try to find some team to take a shot at a veteran who won’t play but who won’t complain or be a disruptive force; and getting into bet-

ter shape wouldn’t hurt either.

Landry Fields

Contract: Free agent. What to do: Seek alternate employment because it’s going to be virtually impossible for a team to sign a veteran with a still-broken jump shot.

Greg Steimsma

Contract: Free agent. What to do: Have agent scour the league looking for a team that needs a good guy at the end of the bench who’ll play for the veteran minimum and be OK with it.

Bruno Caboclo

Contract: Signed through 2017-18 with team option for 2018-19. What to do: Play as much as possible in the NBA Summer League, work constantly on all facets of the game with coaches, starting almost immediately.

Lucas Nogueira

Contract: Team option for 2015-16. What to do: Need to work as hard as Caboclo on all facets of his game and be ready to assume at least a marginally larger role somewhere next season; also adding bulk to a slight frame would help.
