Beneath the surface, a rabid gardener
A Polish gardener faces prosecution after he was caught trying to smuggle in plants in his underwear.
The man, a resident of New Zealand, was strip-searched at Auckland airport after a drug dog sniffed something near his groin. His two pairs of underpants concealed a bulb, a tuber, some seeds and plant cuttings, including ivy from a castle in Poland.
“He wanted the plants for his garden, saying he could not find them in New Zealand,” said an official.
