Raise minimum wage to $15

landscape, Opinion May 13 Thanks to Carol Goar for her column on new Alberta Premier Rachel Notley’s pledge to raise the minimum wage to $15. This would lift a single parent who works full time above the poverty line.

Here’s a challenge to Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne: forget the measly 25 cent an hour increases you’ve planned and go for a $15 an hour minimum wage in Ontario for adults. This would help eliminate child poverty in Ontario, a promise often made by our governments but never kept.

As a small retail business owner myself I know it’s the right thing to do. Do we really want a society where a person who works a 40-hour week lives below the poverty line? June Johnston, Bloomfield
