Porter column, Levant video

-

Re Ezra Levant begs to differ, Letters July 8 Forget about Ezra Levant. Bringing your daughter to a protest and thrusting her into the national spotlight in order to create a news story is pretty weird. I don’t expect a lot of the Toronto Star, but I expect better than child exploitation. Tom Forsythe, Ottawa

Kudos to the Star editors for having the guts to print Ezra Levant’s letter front and centre. The fact that he has a videotape of Porter’s attempt to publicize herself at her daughter’s expense might have been a factor in your decision, but still, you did the right thing. Patricia Starr, Toronto

Following Catherine Porter’s grossly inaccurate column on her daughter meeting Ezra Levant (My daughter’s run-in with Ezra Levant, July 7), the Star owes Levant a formal apology for not “fact-checking” her column properly. I am a former reporter and if I had ever wilfully written something that wrong, I would have been, rightly, fired. Rick Hiebert, Vancouver
