July 7 So the right-wing Fraser Institute tells us that amalgamation is a flop. Let’s remember that amalgamation was the brainchild of the right-wing Mike Harris fiasco in Ontario. As premier, Harris was determined to brand Ontario with his conservative ideology, regardless of the human costs. In Ottawa we have another ultraright-wing Conservative government, headed by Stephen Harper, who is also determined to brand the entire country with his ideology and destroy the vestiges of liberalism in Canada.

Even the Fraser Institute has seen the deleterious effects of this kind of politics. Do we need more proof that the Harperites must be removed from office? Stephen L. Bloom, Toronto
