Shipwreck believed to be 120 years old

-

A diver has said that a newly discovered shipwreck in Pictou Harbour, N.S., could be more than 120 years old. Robert MacKay explored the wreck with six other experienced divers Friday after obtaining the co- ordinates from the government.

He reported that the sunken ship was about 60 metres long, with the stern less than 10 metres below the surface of the water.

The discovery of burnt pieces of wood and the ship’s anchors led MacKay to speculate that the ship caught fire and sank while in harbour.
