Bodies found where Canadians vanished
The body of an unidentified man was found Sunday in the area where Canadian hikers Étienne Lemieux and Louis-Vincent Lessard were last seen. A second body was spotted in the area early Monday.
Det. Lisa Watt confirmed Sunday morning that helicopters had found the first body on the Kepler track in the Fiordland National Park. It appears the two had been swept away by an avalanche.
Lemieux and Lessard, both 23, were last seen July 6 in Queenstown. The two were supposed to return home to Montreal on Friday. Relatives alerted authorities when the pair did not land as scheduled.
The families have been advised of the discovery.
