Writing skills on decline

Re A legacy etched in chalk, July 18 Just like ancient drawings found in caves throughout the world, the handwritten notes in this poignant story affirm the consistent desire for mankind to leave a mark to say, “I was here and strived to make a positive difference.”

Today’s public education system so devalues the handwritten word that we now see young people struggle to write their own name. Very sad that our youth have fewer foundational skills than young people educated 100 years ago. Edda Manley, Burlington
