Angelina joins with Netflix for war movie

Another Hollywood A-lister is joining forces with Netflix, with Angelina Jolie Pitt to direct a film for the streaming service.

She will helm First They Killed My Father, An Unflinching Portrayal of War Through the Eyes of a Child, based on a memoir by Cambodian author and human rights activist Loung Ung, who survived the deadly Khmer Rouge regime. Viewers will be able to see the film in late 2016.

Jolie Pitt read Ung’s book and the two became close friends.

“(The book) deepened forever my understanding of how children experience war and are affected by the emotional memory of it,” she said in a statement. “And it helped me draw closer still to the people of Cambodia, my son’s homeland.”

Her son, Maddox, who was born in Cambodia, will be involved in the film’s production. USA Today
