MLS: New England rolls over short-handed Toronto FC

Charlie Davies scored twice and Lee Nguyen added a penalty kick as the New England Revolution beat 10-man Toronto FC 3-1 on Saturday night in Foxborough, Mass.

Davies opened the scoring for the Revolution (8-9-7) in the 35th minute with a point-blank finish off Kelyn Rowe’s cross.

Jozy Altidore was sent off four minutes later for violent conduct. He kicked in frustratio­n at Revolution defender Jose Goncalves who was on the ground after the two battled for a ball in the air.

Nguyen doubled the lead with a penalty kick in the 44th minute, and Davies made it 3-0 in the 62nd.

Jonathan Osorio got one back for Toronto FC (8-8-4) with a rightfoote­d shot from the top of the box in the 75th minute.

U.S. national team star Jermaine Jones entered the game in the 76th minute, his first appearance for the Revolution since May 31. He missed nine games due to a groin injury. LAMPARD DEBUT: Ignacio Piatti scored a pair of goals as the Montreal Impact spoiled Frank Lampard’s MLS debut by beating New York City FC 3-2 on Saturday.

The English star energized the sellout crowd at Yankee Stadium when he entered as a substitute in the 69th minute immediatel­y after David Villa closed NYCFC’s deficit to 2-1 on a penalty kick.

“We came here and beat a really good team,” said Impact head coach Frank Klopas. “We have to enjoy this moment, but we have a lot of games coming up.” TWO FOR LARIN: Canadian Cyle Larin scored twice to help Orlando City beat the Columbus Crew 5-1 on Saturday night.

Orlando (7-9-6) evened the score 1-1 in the 18th. Servando Carrasco found Corey Ashe down the left wing.

Ashe fed Larin, of Brampton, Ont., in the centre of the box and the rookie tapped it in for his 10th goal of the season.
