Who killed Caribana parade?

-

Re It’s time to shine, Aug. 1 The annual Caribana parade used to go down University Ave. where everyone could see and enjoy it. In the first years after the parade moved to the Lake Shore, it was still a pleasure to watch, lime with friends, dance, eat or stroll along the water. Little by little, the barriers went up. It became harder to enjoy — or even see — the floats and people playing mas.

But this year, although the website promised that “masqueraders in colourful and striking costumes” would “wind their way from the assembly area at Exhibition Place along Lake Shore Boulevard” in fact, they moved just outside the Exhibition and then looped back.

Thousands along Lake Shore stood for hours and saw nothing. In the scramble to make people pay at the Exhibition grounds, the organizers must now pay the price: thousands in lost revenue from tourists who will not come to a party that no longer exists. Lyba Spring, Toronto
