Drew Barrymore hearts Toronto

- RYAN PORTER ENTERTAINMENT REPORTER

Roy Thomson Hall’s famous acoustics echoed the sounds of 2,500 film fans sobbing on Saturday at the premiere of Drew Barrymore’s Miss You Already. It’s just the latest love-in between the effervescent actress and the city. Remember these previous days of Drew?

2004

Pitch Not-Quite Perfect: No bandwagon-ing here — in 2004, when filming the rom-com Fever Pitch opposite Jimmy Fallon, Barrymore threw out the first pitch at a Blue Jays home game against the New York Yankees. John Gibbons won’t be scouting her anytime soon: the pitch didn’t even cross the plate. 2007

Pool Party: While filming HBO’s Grey Gardens opposite Jessica Lange at Toronto landmarks such as the Fairmont Royal York and Toronto Island in 2007, Barrymore practised her pool game at Stones Place on Queen St. W.

Channelling the film’s eccentric shut-in Little Edie clearly sapped her extroverted spirit. “I’m feeling shy,” she told selfie hopefuls. 2009

Self-Serve: While premiering her directorial debut Whip It with Ellen Page and Kristen Wiig at TIFF ’09, Barrymore ditched her own party at Tattoo Rock Parlour in favour of the teensy tiny Sweaty Betty’s.

True Drew fans still reminisce about her epic stint as guest bartender. 2014

Flower Blossoms: At the Canadian launch of Flower, her cosmetics brand, at the Thompson Hotel, Barrymore called herself “someone who grew up here a lot and had to find themselves along the way here in Canada.” 2015

Miss Drew Already: At the TIFF premiere of Miss You Already, Barrymore signed autographs and gave her co-star Toni Collette a major hug before the cast retreated to the Fortress of Celebrity Solitude (a.k.a. Soho House) for an after-party.
