Season 2 of How to Get Away With

Murder, a twisty drama about law professor Annalise Keating and her not-so-innocent students, premieres Thursday on CTV (10 p.m.). Consider this your Coles Notes to Season 1: a binge-watching meal replacement that breaks down its highlights and lowlights to give you maximum premiere pleasure. And beware, there are spoilers ahead.

Where we left fff Yet another in Shonda Rhimes’ stable of hits, Murder Season 1 was part case-of-the-week courtroom drama, part soap opera and part murder mystery with two whodunits: the strangling of university student Lila and the demise of Annalise’s husband Sam, whose body we saw her students disposing of in Episode1. By the finale, we knew that Annalise’s employee Frank killed Lila on orders from Sam, who had got Lila pregnant, and Sam was bludgeoned by student Wes while throttling Wes’s girlfriend, Rebecca, who was out to prove that Sam killed Lila. Then Rebecca turned up dead in Annalise’s basement. Like we said, twisty. Best episode No. 9, “Kill Me, Kill Me, Kill Me”: Finally we get the full story about how Sam died. Annalise, who stormed out of the house after fighting with Sam about Lila, has reported him missing. As she shares the news with her students, she and Wes lock eyes and, via flashback, we see what really happened when Wes returned to her house/office to retrieve the murder weapon. “I’m so sorry,” he says, looking down at Sam’s body. “Don’t be,” says Annalise, unseen until that moment. Most shocking moment A tie, between the big reveal about Annalise and Rebecca turning up dead. One of the least likable characters in the series, Rebecca (played by Katie Findlay), sleeps with her best friend’s boyfriend; drugs a neighbour who might implicate her in Lila’s slaying; and threatens to out boyfriend Wes for killing Sam. Plenty of people were implicated in Sam’s slaying and its coverup, which means Rebecca’s killer could be just about anyone. Main characters Annalise Keating (Viola Davis): Tough as nails in the classroom and courtroom, alternately cruel, needy and deceitful in her personal life. When she’s not berating Sam or having rough sex with him, she beds hunky detective Nate. Wes Gibbins (Alfred Enoch): By the end of the season, naive Wes is just as conniving as Annalise. He loves Rebecca but starts to believe she killed Lila, which leads the students to kidnap her, which leads to her demise. What’s next It seems we’ll find out right away who killed Rebecca. And there has to be some fallout from Lila’s and Sam’s deaths, right? Famke Janssen ( XMen) joins the cast for multiple episodes. Also joining the fun, Kendrick Sampson of The Vampire Diaries. Extra Credit If you loved How to Get Away With Murder:

Try Scandal: Another drama from Rhimes about a powerful, driven woman (Kerry Washington), in this case a political fixer rather than a lawyer.

Try Damages: Another drama that combines law and murder, with a very powerful (and kind of terrifying) woman (Glenn Close) calling the shots.

Try The Good Wife: Another legal drama starring a woman (Julianna Margulies) whose character raises hell in her personal life as well as the courtroom.
