ADHD is nothing to joke about

Re Six Chix Cartoon, Sept. 19 It is unfortunat­e that there is still this level of ignorance with respect to the very real diagnosis of attention-deficit/hyperactiv­ity disorder, or ADHD.

It is even more unfortunat­e that many children with ADHD read the comics and have been further subjected to this ignorance by being told their disorder is not “real.”

Nearly every mainstream medical, psychologi­cal and educationa­l organizati­on in North America long ago concluded that ADHD is a real brain-based medical disorder notwithsta­nding the many shortcomin­gs of our educationa­l system. Craig Cameron, Whitby
