The perfect setting

Make your Thanksgiving table a work of art,

- By Debra Norton

Show off the season’s harvest

From the market to the tabletop — a modern spin on a cornucopia takes centre stage on this farmers-market-inspired table. A trail of pink apples, purple turnips, multicoloured squash and mini white pumpkins create an eye-catching centrepiece that also makes for a great post-holiday-meal.

Design your own fresh-herb bundle placecards

Bundle a mixture of fresh herbs from the market or the last bits from your herb pots to create pretty and aromatic place cards.

Napkins

White linen napkins always look smart but fresh new cotton tea towels will have your guests covered and make for easy care. You can mix the two textiles to add a casual element to the table.

Add texture to your table

Create a custom fringed table runner, no sewing required. Cut unwashed linen to desired size, leaving approximately a half-inch around the fabric for your fringe. Starting on one side, pull threads. The thread will unravel in one continuous length. Repeat until you achieve the look you want.

Mix it up

Don’t be afraid to mix vintage and new china on your table. It keeps it relaxed and adds character and whimsy. You can often find orphaned vintage pieces of china at thrift shops or antique markets.

Make take-home party favours

Seasonal preserves: Farmer’s markets are fabulous spots for picking up locally made gifts and you will often find at least one vendor with fresh preserves or pickles from the harvest. Add your own unique wrapping and tag for your guests to take home. Candy cornucopias: Sweet treats tucked into paper cones are reminiscent of traditional cornucopias.
