Ambrose will back missing indigenous women inquiry

- JOANNA SMITH OTTAWA BUREAU

OTTAWA— Interim Conservative leader Rona Ambrose says she’ll support an inquiry into missing and murdered indigenous women, but also urged the Liberal government not to wait for its results to take action.

“This is an absolutely non-partisan issue, it should never be political,” she said in an interview to be aired Saturday morning on CBC Radio.

The Conservatives had steadfastly refused to call an inquiry into what the RCMP says are more than 1,200 cases of missing or murdered indigenous women and girls, saying they preferred action over another study.

“I think at some point that inquiry became so wholly symbolic of this issue that I do understand why the government has decided to go forward with this,” said Ambrose.
