Already sick? How to help yourself feel better

-

For your throat & chest

Drink hot liquids, since they moisten the membranes that line your nose and throat. It’s a good idea to stay away from caffeine and alcohol when you’re achy and congested, since they can leave you dehydrated. Your pharmacist can recommend a product that’s right for you. A product like Robitussin Cough Control Extra Strength with Mucus and Phlegm Relief soothes throats and helps relieve dry coughs and chest congestion and loosens mucus and phlegm.

For your sinuses

Don’t blow your nose too hard, which can cause an earache by putting pressure on your nasal cavities. Do it gently, one nostril at a time. Otrivin® Saline Severe Congestion Relief is a natural sea water solution nasal spray to help unblock your nose. Breathe Right® nonmedicated nasal strips can open up your nose instantly — and they’re available for kids, as well. Advil® Cold & Sinus can also give relief, opening your airways by shrinking swollen nasal passages and making it easier to breathe.

For your kids

If you’re a busy parent, the last thing you need is a sick child. Preschool kids have about twice as many colds per year as their parents.

Teach them about the importance of hand washing, since the common cold is mostly spread through contact by hand. It’s also important that they get plenty of rest. If your little one does come down with a fever, Children’s Advil® can give them up to eight hours of relief. Your pharmacist can help you find a product appropriate for your child’s age and weight.
