Fan dies days after seeing Star Wars

After learning that he was losing his two-year battle with cancer, Daniel Fleetwood, a longtime Star Wars fan, had one last wish: to see an early version of the newest film.

His wife, Ashley, and thousands of fellow fans leapt into action to make it happen. Daniel Fleetwood got his wish last week, when he watched an early version of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. On Tuesday, he died. In a Facebook post, Ashley Fleetwood said the cause of her husband’s death was complicati­ons of spindle cell sarcoma. He was 31.

The Walking Dead is about to get its biggest bad guy yet. Jeffrey Dean Morgan has been cast as Negan on the zombie show. Negan is a character that fans of the original Dead comics know very well, a nasty villain who leads a group called the Saviors. AMC wouldn’t give any further details on when or for how long Morgan would appear on the show. Morgan played anti-hero the Comedian in Zack Snyder’s 2009 adaptation of the graphic novel Watchmen. He most recently has been seen on CBS’s The Good Wife.

Benedict Cumberbatc­hhas been honoured by Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace for his services to the performing arts and to charity. The 39-year-old Sherlock star, who was nominated for an Oscar for The Imitation Game, told reporters afterward that the experience was “quite nerve-wracking.”

Country music star Blake Shelton will host Nickelodeo­n’s 2016 Kids’ Choice Awards. In a news release, the Voice coach said he was looking forward to the “madness, excitement and endless slime” of the annual awards, which will air in Canada March 12 on YTV and Nickelodeo­n.

Gwyneth Paltrow is launching a lifestyle publishing line called, of course, goop. The first release will be Paltrow’s It’s All Easy cookbook, which comes out in April. A beauty book is scheduled for next fall.

Kate Hudson is the latest actress with advice to share on health and wellness. Dey Street Books is publishing Pretty Happy: Healthy Ways to Love Your Body, set for release in February. The Oscar-nominated actress will offer “inspiratio­n and motivation” for women on “fitness, nutrition and a mindful lifestyle.”
