Alessia Cara’s famous fans

Budding pop star Alessia Cara’s calling-card hit, “Here,” is all about how little fun she’s having at a party, but the admittedly shy singer is starting to keep some pretty high-profile company these days. Celebrity endorsements and big-ticket collaborations have been quick to come her way. Here we run through a few of Cara’s more notable famous friends.

Taylor Swift As Entertainment Weekly and others noted last week, Cara is now officially the latest member of Taylor Swift’s ever-growing “squad.” Swift — who’d previously tweeted “You’re AMAZING” to Cara after hearing the young Canadian’s cover of “Bad Blood” — hauled her onstage in Tampa on Halloween to duet on “Home,” later remarking on Instagram that she “honestly couldn’t be more impressed by this girl.” Cara sweetly offered her own Instagram thank you to Swift “for showing me what 55,000 people looks like,” calling her the “classiest, sweetest, most lovely person.” Friends forever!

Drake Cara cut her teeth covering Drake tunes in her bedroom and, more recently, has supplied the Internet with one of the most engaging of the countless versions of “Hotline Bling” making the rounds. It was only natural, then, that the two Torontonians would eventually meet. Drake casually sent her a direct message asking her to come say “hi” at the Squamish Valley Music Festival in British Columbia last summer. “It was the best five minutes of my life,” Cara later enthused.

Lorde Cara’s honest take on youthful “outsider”-dom has earned her many a comparison to fellow awkward-teen-in-the-spotlight Lorde, so it was pretty much pre-ordained that the two would eventually find a way to bond. “Loving ‘Here’ angel girl,” Lorde tweeted to Cara from New Zealand in June. “This will have a special place in my stash of important screenshots,” replied Cara, later adding “and the mental list of coolest things to happen to me ever.”

Shawn Mendes Pickering popster Mendes displayed a little 905 solidarity with Cara himself in June, tweeting “Here” to his followers with the note: “Love this song . . . You guys gotta check it out.” Ben Rayner
