Tories got just about everything wrong

-

Re Mr. Kenney, what exactly did your party get right? Opinion Nov. 11 I wish to express my appreciation of Carol Goar’s astute observations and to add a few thoughts of my own. Not only was Jason Kenney not telling the truth when he said the Conservatives got the big picture right, only the tone was wrong, he avoided admitting that they got almost everything wrong — ludicrous, insulting advertising (we aren’t that gullible); vicious polarization; fearmongering — to identify a few spurious tactics.

Both Jason Kenney and Rona Ambrose have acknowledged publicly that the tone was wrong. Actually, the entire collection of behaviours and attitudes was wrong — egregiously so. The bullying, the deception, the secretiveness and the manipulation were all wrong, So was the disrespect for Parliament, the disrespect for diplomacy, the disrespect for the Supreme Court and the contempt for provincial premiers and Canadian citizens.

Our country was being severely damaged by the Conservatives, who increasingly seemed to have almost no understanding of competent governance and the responsible, moral exercise of power. It has been an appalling performance.

The last several years, with Stephen Harper at the helm of the government of Canada, have been very distressing.

As they are at present, the Conservatives are not fit to govern. It is my profound hope that my fellow Canadians, who have recently spoken so clearly, will not permit them access to power and control for a long time to come. They are just not ready.

I’m not saying never, but not in the near future. They have proven, repeatedly, that they are neither capable of handling power judiciously, or respectfully, nor are they concerned about taking care of Canadians.

The Conservatives have shown, beyond any doubt, that they have a propensity for doing great harm. They have a very long way to go to rebuild themselves. Mary E.L. Milosh, Toronto
