Kiss softly and carry a sense of humour

- DEBRA YEO TORONTO STAR

We have no doubt The Bachelorette Canada will hew closely to the formula of the American show. The Bachelorette will go on a “journey” to find love. There will be at least one designated villain. We will know that much of the drama is being created by skilful editing and behind-thescenes coaching, but we will still watch and, in our hearts of hearts, hope that the Bachelorette finds true love. Here’s our guide to what she should bring along for the eight weeks or so of filming.

Lip balm: Don’t be shy, pucker up. Serial smooching is expected. You’ve heard the line about having to kiss a lot of frogs? Well, ribbit.

Waterproof mascara: Maybe you think you’re not a cryer, but tears will flow. Even if it’s just because you’re exhausted and stressed and suddenly it seems like the saddest thing in the world that a guy you barely know just isn’t that into you.

Red Bull: Filming, particularly of that first getting-to-know-you cocktail party, can take hours. As the star of the show, you always have to be “on.” Guy No. 25 wants to tell you about his guitar pick collection or read a poem he wrote? Smile and look alert.

Healthy body image: Just because you’re filming in Canada in less than balmy temperatures doesn’t mean you’ll lack the obligatory bikini shots. That’s what travel budgets are for. Whatever you’ve got, you’ll have to flaunt.

Personality: This one’s for us, the viewers. It’s why Jillian and Kaitlyn got to be Bachelorettes. Start with a sense of humour, preferably a selfdeprecating one.
