Metro porn cinema
It was the last of its kind in Toronto — a full-on two-theatre cinema devoted to showing X-rated movies on big screens — right up until late 2013, when it finally closed after years on the market. For all but a handful of devoted regular patrons, it was a place noteworthy more as a curiosity than a destination, its marquee a reminder of the pre-digital-device days when porn was something consumed in public and when neighbourhoods often supported local movie houses (of all types.) It has been a landmark vacancy ever since closing, until this year, when the Star reported it was being transformed into a massive rock-climbing gym, which is set to open before the end of the year.
