Downtown Stockholm is full of places that hold significan­ce in the rise to fame of Sweden’s disco heroes. Here are some of the top spots to check out.

1. City hall This is where Benny Andersson’s first public performanc­e took place. He also received an honorary doctorate from Stockholm University here, in 2008. 2. The Sheraton Hotel This hotel had a starring role in ABBA: The Movie and is on the edge of the old town, where Anni-Frid Lyngstad and then-husband Andersson once lived. 3. Hotel Rival This beautiful boutique hotel is owned by Andersson and the Swedish premiere of Mamma Mia! was held here. It can be found on the edge of Mariator get, a peaceful city square. 4. The Royal Opera House Agnetha Faltskog and Lyngstad serenaded Queen Silvia and King Gustav with “Dancing Queen” during the royal couple’s wedding celebratio­ns in 1976. 5. Skeppsholm­en Island Bjorn Ulvaeus was interviewe­d for the program Scandimani­a at Hotel Skeppsholm­en and the restaurant is one of his favourites. 6. ABBA the Museum This hi-tech museum is brimming with the ultimate in ABBA memorabili­a. 7. Grona Lund Theme Park ABBA played several concerts here. The famous photo depicting the band in front of a Ferris wheel was taken here and subsequent­ly became one of the most famous photos of the band.
