HUB FILLS VITAL VOID

Weston is set to receive a new community cultural hub.

- By Daniel Otis

Weston was approved for a new community cultural hub last month, slated to include live/work housing units for artists, a sprawling outdoor space for the Weston Farmers’ Market and a 30-storey apartment building, all designed to enliven a desolate corner of the community. Created under a public-private partnership that includes the city of Toronto, the Rockport Group and creative urban development not-for-profit organization Artscape, it will be completed in 2018. Artscape Weston Hub, as it will be known, joins several other community cultural hubs in the city — places that infuse arts, culture and creativity into the fabric of the neighbourhoods that surround them.
