How plaid can perk up your holidays,

- By Debra Norton

Preppy plaid continues to trend this holiday season. It’s a classic that is everywhere from the runway to the tabletop. Warm and comforting, it’s a look that easily transitions from autumn through the holidays and beyond. We’re sharing five ways you can incorporate plaid this holiday season. Whether it’s for your home or gift-giving, check out this sturdy Scottish pattern.

Napkins

Add some rustic plaid to your table, whether it’s a casual hot cocoa tray or a post-holiday brunch, plaid is a welcome addition. Try layering a wool blanket on your tabletop as a runner, mix in a tarnished silver tray and tie your napkins with some ribbon and greenery for a festive look.

Ribbon

Wrap your gifts with preppy plaid ribbon that you can make yourself using torn strips of fabric. Simply tear a strip off, remove any loose threads and use it as a ribbon on your wrapped boxes or bags. It’s a great way to upcycle leftover fabric, old linens or even clothing.

Scarf

Plaid scarves or blanket scarves are a trendy way to keep warm and are super easy to make yourself. Made with cosy flannel, you’ll want to make one in everything from buffalo check to classic tartan.

Wreath

Add a pop of plaid to your front door by casually wrapping a length of ribbon around a boxwood wreath.

Throw

Plaid’s classic look has had a revival in home decor and is a great way to add texture, colour and warmth to your space. Try adding a cosy wool throw to your sofa. It looks great and will keep you warm on cold winter nights and makes a perfect gift.
