Gender, prostitution and Canada’s Senate

-

Re More women to the Senate, Editorial Jan. 5 If prostitution is the oldest profession, then Canada’s Senate is on its way to becoming the second oldest.

No one seriously believes that prostitution or Canada’s Senate will be cleansed from within, so why would any woman seek membership in either?

If it is the money, then perhaps, we finally can bring dignity to the Senate by making senatorship a voluntary vocation with no pay or expense reimbursement whatsoever.

Don’t get me wrong; many prostitutes and senators are a credit to their profession and I sincerely wish all of them the very best. Patrick Cowan, North York
