David Bowie’s funeral will be a private affair

-

David Bowie’s family is planning a private funeral for the music legend.

They posted a noted titled “Thank you” on Bowie’s websites and social media pages on Thursday.

“The family of David Bowie is currently making arrangements for a private ceremony celebrating the memory of their beloved husband, father and friend. They ask once again that their privacy be respected at this most sensitive of times,” the Facebook posting said.

Bowie died Sunday at age 69 after battling cancer for 18 months. The family said “we are overwhelmed by and grateful for the love and support shown throughout the world.”

Meanwhile, bereaved Bowie fans set a single-day record for video views on Vevo the day after he died.

The music video service says views of Bowie videos hit 51 million on Monday. That broke the record held by Adele, whose videos had 36 million views when “Hello” debuted on Oct. 23.

Finally, one of Bowie’s famous friends, Elton John, offered a tribute at a concert in Los Angeles Wednesday night.

About halfway through his performance at the intimate Wiltern Theatre, John shared a story about Bowie.

John said that many years ago he was looking for a new producer and arranger to work with; “then I heard a record which blew me away called ‘Space Oddity.’ ”

John hired Bowie’s collaborators to work on his breakthrough hit, “Your Song.”

“I have David Bowie to thank for that,” John said. “So I’d like to dedicate this to the star man himself.”
