The DX events under Shauna Levy’s tenure
Ballet production, fashion, interior design featured since March 2012
Since March 2012, when Shauna Levy took the reins as president of the Design Exchange at 234 Bay St., the DX has seen a flurry of events, designers and celebrities.
The National Ballet of Canada (July 11 to Sept. 2, 2012), a 60th anniversary featuring costumes, sets, sketches from productions including The Nutcracker and Romeo and Juliet.
Douglas Coupland (Nov. 16, 2012), the artist, designer and cultural guru who coined the term Generation X, was guest speaker at DX Intersection, an annual fundraiser.
The Happy Show ( Jan. 9 to March, 2013) featured the works of Austrian-born graphic designer Stefan Sagmeister, who has designed album covers for the Rolling Stones and Lou Reed as well as ad campaigns for HBO and Levi’s.
Jonathan Adler, a ceramic artist, interior designer and lifestyle guru, spoke at the DX Feb. 20, 2013.
The Christian Louboutin Design Exchange Exhibit (June 21 to Sept. 15, 2013), featuring a 20-year retro- spective of the renowned French shoe and fashion designer’s work.
A Rendez-vous with Hermès Craftsmen (Oct. 2 to 6, 2013) featured a behind-the-scenes look at the work of a dozen artisans employed at the famously chic Paris retailer known for its fashionable handbags, scarves and leather goods.
Lingeries Française (November 2013), curated by fashion historian Catherine Orman, looked at how social and cultural mores shaped women’s undergarments and their attitudes toward their own bodies.
This is Not A Toy (Feb. 7 to May 19, 2014), curated by singer/songwriter and designer Pharrell Williams, explored the concept of “designer toys” and “urban vinyl.”
3DXL( May to August 2015), curated by director of collections Sara Nickleson, demonstrated the ways 3D printing is shaping everything from science to architecture.
Politics of Fashion ( Sept. 18, 2014 to Jan. 25), curated by veteran fashion journalist Jeanne Beker and featuring six decades of apparel with a political message.
An Evening with Patti Smith (Oct. 13, 2015) featured the legendary rock star reading from her memoir, M Train.
