Flint poisonings horrifying

-

Re Government lied about poisoned Michigan water, Jan. 16

I was horrified to read of the co-operation of U.S. legislators at all levels to cover up and thereby permit the ongoing poisoning of Flint’s water supply. It reminded me of our own Walkerton tragedy, but in the Flint situation those people who complained about the water quality were actively demeaned and dismissed.

It appears that in this “poor city” the residents were really considered “disposable.” The vulnerable people, particularly children, will be living with the effects of lead poisoning for many years.

So far no charges have been laid against the facilitators and perpetrators of this poisoning. If this poisoning had been done by some domestic or foreign terrorist organization, I’m sure the punishments for those responsible would have been considerable.

We wonder why there is widespread distrust of our elected representatives; at times we really don’t have to look very far to find reasons to support this distrust. Let us hope that Canada is better.
