This century home on the east side of Markham’s Dickson Hill community has been completely renovated. Originally built in 1875 for Thomas Moyer and his family, and located on a private, gated property, the 2-1/2storey house now includes a new media room, an additional private suite, and a second-floor apartment with its own entrance.

“We went to the Markham library and museum to learn a bit about the history of the Moyer home and family. This was the second home on his property, the marital home for himself, his children and his new bride,” says Mariachristina Ripchensky, the home’s owner.

“Our family has really enjoyed living in this home,” says Ripchensky. “The neighbourhood is like none other. The people who live in the hamlet of Dickson Hill organize community barbecues, take time to meet each other and are genuine and kind to one another.

“We are close to many suburban amenities, as it is a short drive south to Markham or north to Stouffville, where shops, schools, restaurants and recreation centres can be enjoyed. In Markham, there is a GO station, and Hwy. 407 is about 10 minutes away,” adds Ripchensky.

As well, there are many surrounding parks, golf courses and clubs.

“This is a unique, century residence,” says listing agent Denise For- gie of the home that’s listed with the Town of Markham’s historically significant properties.

“Some features of note in the home include eight-inch baseboards, cathedral ceilings, quartz counters and hardwood floors,” Forgie says. “Converted from a second, double-car garage, the new media/family room is on the main floor but separate from the original home by an enclosed breezeway and hall. Combining both classical and modern features, this will make the perfect home for a large single family, or a multi-family executive couple.”

With a white vinyl facade, dark green exterior California shutters, and a large wraparound porch with white pickets and rail, this expansive home has the charm of a large farmhouse. The large front yard has many towering trees and features an interlocking brick walkway to the front door.

Illuminated with lots of natural light, the foyer features a ceramictile floor, pot lights, wainscotting, crown moulding, and an art nook. A few steps up lead to the hall, where there is a skylight, a ceramic floor, pot lights and a double closet.

The living room has three windows, a hardwood floor, a gas fireplace with a floor-to-ceiling stone surround and built-in shelves on both sides, wainscotting, a decorative ceiling, and crown moulding.

A garden door walkout highlights the formal, spacious dining room, with its hardwood floor and crown moulding.

The large, contemporary kitchen includes quartz counters, an island/ breakfast bar, and built-in stainlesssteel appliances — including two built-in ovens — a pantry, pot drawers, a wine rack, lots of counter space, a window over the sink, pot lights, a hardwood floor, quartz backsplash, three skylights and a cathedral ceiling.

On this main floor are also two powder rooms and a laundry room with a porcelain-tile floor and granite folding counter.

Upstairs, the generous-sized mas- ter bedroom has a hardwood floor, track lights, a huge walk-in closet and a four-piece ensuite with a heated floor.

The second bedroom boasts skylights, a laminate floor, a walk-in closet and a three-piece ensuite.

The third-floor loft is devoted to a private bedroom, or possible home office space, that features a hardwood floor and three-piece bathroom. Through a breezeway and mud room on the main floor and down a hall is the media room and separate suite. The media room features a new gas fireplace, wired home theatre sound, built-in shelves, a bar with a granite counter and stone-tile backsplash, a coffered ceiling and pot lights.

In the new granny area there is a bedroom with a double closet and laminate floor, a breakfast nook and a three-piece ensuite.

Built 15 years ago, a second-floor addition has been renovated to include an apartment with a separate side entrance from the house. It includes a bedroom with a hardwood floor and a three-piece ensuite, a play area, and a kitchen with a laminate floor and cathedral ceilings.

The basement of the main home is finished.

Fenced in, the saltwater heated pool is surrounded by an interlocking brick patio and has a change room. The large lawn has a playhouse-treehouse and many mature trees.
