KATHERINE ROSS (nee JOHNSON)

-

December 17, 1954 - February 7, 2016

Passed away in the arms of her loving family after a long but courageous battle with cancer. Katherine was born and raised in Stirling, Ontario. Loving wife of Gerry Ross. Daughter of the late Harold and Lillian Johnson. Devoted mother of Sara Ross-Sawchuck (Mike) and Alana Ross. Sister of Karen Sheppard (the late Jerry) and Don Macintosh (Ruth), as well as brothers and sisters Joyce, Ron, Wes, Keith, Ralph, Jack, Eleanor, Joan, Mary and Marg. Dear sister-in-law of Katie and Terry Rudow and Tracy and the late Don Ross. She will be missed by her many nieces, nephews and cousins. Adored greatly by grand-puppy Olive and Anuk. Katherine was married to her best friend, Gerry, for over 41 years, during which time they travelled the world. During these trips, Katherine visited innumerable art galleries and realized her true passion for art. In 1994, Katherine went to Art College and established her calling as Printmaker. Her love of Standing Stones and Celtic imagery inspired her to produce a stunning portfolio of work and her pieces have been collected by people all over the world. Katherine leaves behind a wonderful group of friends - she loved so many unconditionally and was loved the same way in return. She will be missed by her book club, bridge group and her close group of wonderful friends, The Usual’s, whose regular get-togethers and fantastic New Year’s Eve parties always left her smiling. Though battling breast cancer for over 3 years, Katherine never lost her sense of humour, courage and determination to beat it. She always had a smile on her face and was unwavering in her desire to get the most from life, hosting parties and visiting with friends even on days when she felt a little more tired. She loved the wonderful staff at the Stronach Cancer Centre, many of whom would come to see her during treatment days to see what wonderful and colourful earrings she was wearing. We want to thank Katherine’s Closing the Gap homecare nurse, Christine, and the incredible nurses and volunteers at Matthew’s House Hospice in Alliston. Katherine left this world surrounded by her artwork, photos of family and friends, receiving visits from loved ones and making everyone smile with her humour and strength. Visitation will be held at the W. John Thomas Funeral Home, 244 Victoria St. E., Alliston on Saturday, February 13, 2016 from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations made to the Matthews House Hospice would be appreciated. www.thomasfuneralhome.ca The world has lost a great artist, loving wife and sister, amazing mum and friend. We will miss you Kathy.

"I’ll see you on your side of the bridge; leave a light on for me."
