A history of headaches for landlords

-

The Star has reported on seven previous cases for properties Nina Willis has been ordered out of since 2005. Court records and interviews with lawyers, paralegals and past landlords were used to piece together her history. 2008 — A tale of a terrifying tenant Former landlord Tony Poupolo tells the Star Nina Willis seemed like an “angel” to his elderly parents, who rented a house to her in 2008. She promised to take care of the property, then the rent stopped. 2012 — He didn’t know she was trouble Willis is evicted from a Don Mills rental home in September for failing to pay rent. It takes the better part of a year for the landlord to take his house back. 2013 — Guilty as charged Willis is found guilty of changing the locks on a house she rented and blocking her landlord from entering the home. 2014 — No rent paid Willis is ordered by the Landlord and Tenant Board to clear out a two-storey Scarborough area property she rented for more than a year. Documents show no rent was paid from August 2013 through November 2013. Both Willis and Christopher Lancelotte, who has previously rented with Willis, claim the landlord’s agent was late collecting the rent, and they withheld money due to maintenance issues and utility bills. They also blame car troubles, a vacation and issues at their bank. 2015 — Guilty again Willis, 51, is found guilty of two counts of fraud under $5,000 and two counts of false pretense under $5,000, for misleading two landlords on her rental applications, and in emails she provided when applying to rent their homes. 2015 — Off to jail Willis handed six months in jail and one year of probation just over two weeks prior for defrauding two former landlords.
