Chuvalo presented with honorary belt at scene of famed Ali fight
Former boxer George Chuvalo returned to Maple Leafs Gardens, now home to Ryerson’s Mattamy Centre, to receive an honorary ’People’s Champion’ belt on Tuesday. It was 50 years to the day that the Toronto fighter battled heavyweight champ Muhammad Ali in a 15-round bout at the Gardens. Chuvalo lost the fight, but won respect for his courage and determination.
