Worker plants Mexican flag atop Trump Tower
Mexican-Canadian man wants to remind Republican front-runner who he employs
“Buenos dias, Donald!”
Mexican-Canadian construction worker Diego Reyna hung a Mexican flag on the top of the Trump hotel, which is under construction in Vancouver, B.C., to remind the Republican front-runner just who helped build his empire.
“What is that? It’s a Mexican flag. Why is that? Because it’s Mexicans that built this tower, from the dry wall to the concrete finish to the steel framing, to the cleaning,” Reyna said in a video of himself on top of the top of the tower, which was posted on YouTube over the weekend.
“This building is standing here today, thanks to us.”
Reyna, who lives in Port Moody, B.C., says he is tired of Donald Trump spouting negative comments about Mexicans in his campaign for the Republican presidential nomination.
“There’s a little present from me to Trump, so every time you judge us, you can think who is building your towers. We are,” Reyna said in the video.
A picture of Reyna with the flag at the top of the tower was shared thousands of times on Facebook, and his bold protest got the attention of local media.
Speaking to the Vancouver Sun, Reyna, who is originally from Chiapas, Mexico, said he doesn’t work on the site, but has many Mexican and Muslim friends who do, and wanted to hang the Mexican flag as a “counter attack” against Trump’s hatred.
“He cannot be insulting people he is benefitting from,” he told the Vancouver Sun.
