> RUN AWAY WITH MEME: CARLY PICKS HER FAVES

-

Internet watchers know that Carly Rae Jepsen’s boffo 2015 single “Run Away With Me” has lately found a second life six months after release, as the soundtrack to a plethora of idiotic but often hysterical Vine clips featuring everything from SpongeBob SquarePants to Rihanna to everyday people engaged in bizarrely decontextualized behaviour. She loves them. “Those make my day,” she says, calling the proliferation of “Run Away With Me” memes “a really cool surprise.” And yes, she does have her favourites. “I do,” she says. “You’re going to think I have this really mean sense of humour, but there’s this one of a little boy who’s at a park or a fair and he just gets plowed down by this big spinning wheel. I don’t know why I find it so funny, but it’s totally comedic.” Her other favourite we can’t find online but it sounds pretty awesome, too. “I got in trouble with my project manager because she’s the mom of two kids and we had posted one where a boy literally gets mowed down by this girl chasing him on a lawn mower,” laughs Jepsen. “She was, like, ‘What if he got hurt?’ I didn’t think of that. I hope he didn’t get hurt. But it just looks hilarious. I’m pretty sure his parents wouldn’t have posted it if something awful happened.”
