2014 Pelee Island Pinot Noir Reserve VQA Ontario (LCBO 458521 $16.95)

All too often, sub-$20 Pinot Noir can taste wretched. But this one is just the opposite with its sheer wash of pristine fruit and just enough savouriness to make you fully aware this is a serious wine. Cranberry, violet, ripe strawberry, beetroot, a whisper of dried herbs and a wet stoniness are all elegantly interwoven and taper to long finish. A lot of finesse for the money and a fabulous choice for poultry. Score: 88
