Life is a beach

-

Getting to Sandbanks Provincial Park (shown) just outside Burgeo on the south shore is a hike in itself at more than 100 kilometres on a nearly deserted road. But once here you’ll never doubt your commitment as you see vistas of outlying islands and beaches that could hold their own with the Caribbean. Bring a tent and overnight in paradise.

Six beaches, undulating dunes. Traverse great outcroppings of granite, stop for blueberries, now descend that distant wooden staircase. Visit a deserted cemetery.

Population: one other couple, two kayakers, one aluminum runabout and you.
