Key players Paul Goldschmidt, Arizona: The D-Backs’ first baseman is in the midst of another all-star campaign. He leads the majors with a .425 on-base percentage, and arrives in Toronto riding a 13-game hitting streak. His 14 homers are tied with Bryce Harper for 13th in the NL.
Josh Donaldson, Toronto: The Jays’ third baseman was named American League player of the week Monday after going 12-for-27, with four doubles, a triple and three homers, while collecting nine RBIs in the last seven games. His 11-game hit streak and 23-game on-base streak were both snapped on Sunday in Baltimore. Need to know: This is just the second time the Diamondbacks have visited Toronto and the first time since 2004. It marks the first meeting between the two teams since 2013 . . . After drawing headlines in the offseason by signing Zack Greinke and trading for Shelby Miller to bolster the pitching staff, Arizona has failed to live up to expectations and currently sits seven games below .500 in fourth place in the NL West. Pitching has been their biggest problem, with Greinke the team’s only reliable starter. More than one-third of the team’s wins have come with Greinke on the mound.
On deck: at Chicago White Sox, Friday to Sunday. Brendan Kennedy
