Lohan praises ‘honest’ Mean Girls

- Linda Barnard

Lindsay Lohan told a packed outdoor Pride Month screening of Mean Girls Wednesday night at Harbourfront that the cult 2004 comedy was a turning point for her.

Lohan appeared via video link from London.

“It was really honest and I think that’s why we should make a second one,” said the 29-year-old Lohan.

About 3,000 people filled the outdoor theatre and surrounding area for the screening, part of Harbourfront Centre’s Free Flicks series. TIFF was also a presenter.

Pride Month took its slogan “you can sit with us” from the made-inToronto classic written by Tina Fey.

At times it was difficult to hear Lo- han and her small video image played in a corner of the screen during the 20-minute online chat, where she took questions from fans across North America.

Joining Lohan onscreen for questions was actor Daniel Franzese, who played Damian.

Earlier, Franzese and fellow cast members Olympia Lukis, Daniel DeSanto, Nate Bucknor, Rajiv Surendra, Ky Pham and even Chibi the Chihuahua — still hanging in at age 17 — took to the Harbourfront stage to cheers from the crowd.

Lohan said she had initially wanted to play Regina, but director Mark Waters talked her out of it, saying, “Nobody likes the mean girl. They like the underdog, and you’ve got red hair and freckles so you’re the underdog.’”
