> NOTE TO READERS
Canada’s largest daily newspaper is getting a new look, with more colour, new features and enhanced reproduction to better serve our readers.
The Toronto Star started to unveil the changes this week — and many more are coming beginning next weekend.
These changes come after months of study and consultation with readers in surveys, focus groups and in online discussions with members of the Star Advisers panel of interested readers.
The Star began the changes over the past week with a redesign of our popular Business pages, with a major focus on personal finance.
We have added new, easy-to-read daily market analysis and trend charts tied closely to finance themes and including closing prices for items such as the Canadian dollar, gold and other commodities.
On Mondays, we will feature The Agenda, which reviews all the past week’s key market indicators. On Tuesday, Your Banking looks at personal banking and finance issues. On Wednesday, Your Real Estate looks at what home buyers in the GTA got for their money as well as mortgage rate charts for new and existing homeowners. On Thursdays, Your Investments looks at the weekly top mutual fund movers, stock gainers and losers and ETF performers. On Friday, Your Budget examines com- modity-based personal finance information, such as gas prices and hydro rates. On Saturday, we provide a roundup of market trends and take a look at Today in Business History.
In addition, the business pages will now be a separate section every day except Sunday. At the same time, we have discontinued some features, including the mutual funds page on Saturday and the daily listings of stock prices.
Starting Sunday, July 3, the Star will unveil more changes as part of the move to print the newspaper on presses owned and operated by Transcontinental Printing.
Among the biggest changes will be the Star’s ability to publish an allcolour edition, with colour photographs and advertisements on all pages and in all sections.
Effective July 3 we will also be revising several of our popular sections. Entertainment and Life will now be a combined section, except for Sunday when there will be an Entertainment section only. On Saturday, we will publish a jumbo Entertainment/Life section that will include our current Books pages.
These changes reflect our continuing efforts to provide comprehensive news and information in ways that serve a wide variety of reader interests.
We believe they will make your reading of the Star more enjoyable.
