MEET THE KIDS WHO CODE

-

Lanah, 7 1⁄ 2 Lanah, visiting from France, said she was happy to be at the one-day camp because her mom forgot to bring her laptop and Lanah misses the computer. Her parents have taught her some programming and her dad, an architect, has also taught her design on the computer. Noah, 7 Noah is obsessed with video games, especially Subway Surfers, a mobile game in which users run and dash onto oncoming trains. He “sort of gets” coding because of his love for video games. His goal is to create his own video game and eventually become a pro gamer. John, 7 John, pictured on the right, is a seasoned programming camp vet. After two other camp sessions, he decided to take what he learned home, where he continues to code on his own. He wants a job in tech when he grows up. Marin, 8 Marin just completed her first-ever hack, replacing the text on the Kids Learning Code website with her own personalized message. She entered some text between HTML coding tags and the site suddenly says, “Marin loves to swim.” Juliet, 8 Juliet loves that she can make a robot change behaviour by entering some text on an iPad screen. She has taken programming classes before, where she learned how to make a droid. When she grows up she wants “to work at a tech place and do programming.”
