KEY PLAYERS

Tulowitzki/Myers Jays shortstop Troy Tulowitzki is on a nine-game hitting streak and has looked like his old self. Since return- ing from a quadriceps injury five weeks ago he’s hitting .312 with eight homers and 24 RBIs. His .912 OPS this month is 19th-best in the American League and tied with Edwin Encarnacion for third on the team behind Josh Donaldson (1.167) and Michael Saunders (.925). . . . Padres outfielder Wil Myers, the 25-year-old former darling prospect of the Kansas City Royals and Tampa Bay Rays, is enjoying a solid campaign. He’s hitting .274 with a .344 on-base percentage and 20 home runs to go along with 17 stolen bases. In 14 career games at the Rogers Centre, he has three homers and a .925 on-base-plus-slugging percentage. NEED TO KNOW: This is the first time the Padres have ever visited Toronto. The Jays have played in San Diego on three previous occasions — 2013, 2010 and 2004 — winning five of nine games. . . . The Padres, 14 games under .500 and well out of the playoff race, are expected to be sellers ahead of the Aug. 1 trade deadline. Two of their biggest trade chips are Melvin Upton Jr. and Tuesday’s scheduled starter, Andrew Cashner. The Jays are rumoured to have interest. . . . The Jays are 11-6 in interleague play. The Padres are 4-7. ON DECK: The Jays host the firstplace Baltimore Orioles starting Friday in their biggest series of the season to this point. Brendan Kennedy
