Glamorous ‘she cave’ is a supersized showcase for everything designer

It’s at least in the running for the world’s largest walk-in closet: a 3,000-square-foot, bright and airy space rising three storeys connected by a spiral staircase.

Dubbed a “she cave” by proud owner Theresa Roemer, the well-organized area houses dozens of designer shoes, boots, handbags, gowns, furs and jewelry. The white shelves of colourful footwear reportedly hold 75 pairs of Louboutins alone.

Altogether, there’s about $2 million worth of clothing and accessories, according to Roemer, a Texas socialite and entrepreneur who’s made no secret of her acquisitions.

“To me, my closet is my retreat,” she told Good Morning America in 2014, pegging its price tag at $500,000. But the rooms, which include a champagne bar and hair and makeup salon, were also intended as the site of charity fundraisers, she said.

Locked behind glass doors, the closet was part of a major renovation three years ago to the mansion where she lives with her husband, oil tycoon Lamar Roemer. Located in a gated community in the Woodlands, 45 kilometres from Houston, the property is going on the auction block July 30. It was listed for $12.9 million (U.S.) in 2014.

Trayor Lesnock, president of Miami-based Platinum Luxury Auctions, says both closet and contents are unrivalled by anything he’s seen during a dozen years in the high-end real-estate market.

“I’ve seen just about everything, from gold-plated urinals to glass-encased, 2,000-square-foot offices with $2 million worth of built-in electronics, but this is above and beyond anything else,” he marvels.

“It’s so cool. My mouth was open the whole time,” Lesnock recalls of his first visit to the estate.

But while the closet is unmistakably the star of the show, the house itself impresses on every level.

“A lot of thought went into how things were done,” he says, noting that entertaining was high on the owners’ list when they renovated. There are two kitchens, one a gourmet facility for everyday use and the other a “tremendous catering kitchen” for parties and large-scale events.

Both are streamlined and efficient, with well-designed storage space, hideaways and dual-function cabinets that keep countertops and surfaces free from clutter.

There’s also a fitness centre, wine room, home theatre, massage and spa room and an additional hair salon. The rooms are visually connected by a grey-and-white colour palette punctuated by bold black-and-white floors.

Bathed in light, the spacious interior benefits from 25-foot windows and golf course views.

Outdoors, the pool, patios and lounge areas were inspired by a fivestar Las Vegas resort, according to Lesnock.

But the one feature that really takes your breath away?

“Gotta be that closet.”
