LIKE FATHER, LIKE SON:

Canada’s Ashton Baumann competes in the men’s 200-metre breaststroke. Baumann’s family is no stranger to Olympic success in the pool. His father Alex Baumann won two gold medals for Canada at the 1984 Los Angeles Games.

MEDAL ON THE MAT?

Antoine Valois-Fortier was a bit of a surprise when he won a judo bronze medal four years ago in London. He likely won’t be surprising anyone this time as he goes for more Olympic hardware. The Quebec City native has his first under-81 kilogram match against France’s Loic Pietri.

THE OTHER HOCKEY:

Canada’s men’s field hockey team is back in action against the Netherlands, looking to rebound from back-toback losses. The Canadians will be in tough against the Dutch, ranked second in the world.

THEY SAID IT

"We just beat ourselves. We just tried too hard.” — Rower Rob

Gibson, after the men’s quad crew failed to advance to the Olympic final. The boat had a hard time with choppy conditions over the weekend and was fifth in the repechage Monday. "If that’s what she feels she needs to be able to compete, whatever, that’s her deal. I’m here to compete clean for the U.S. and that’s what I’m going to do." — U.S. swimmer Lilly King, after Russian rival Yuliya Efimova waved a No.1 finger at her following their 100metre breaststroke semi. Efimova is being allowed to compete in Rio after a 16-month suspension was placed on hold while world antidoping officials conduct further studies on the drug.
