The Broncos have shown that a quarterback can be overrated
Carolina (-3) at Denver
This year’s Broncos QB: Trevor Siemian, a seventh-round pick who might be Tom Brady, and might be . . . I don’t know, Brady Quinn? Marcus Brady? He might be quite bad. But then, last year’s Denver quarterbacks were so bad that it should really have counted for two Super Bowls, or none. Pick: Denver
Oakland (pick) at New Orleans
I . . . kind of want to cheer for Oakland. They’ve been the NFL’s auto parts yard for so long, and now Al Davis’s son with the six-dollar haircut is trying to pull off a move to Vegas, and they might even be good. I bet it would make a great underdog sports comedy film, if you tried. Pick: Oakland
N.Y. Giants (pick) at Dallas
I worry about Tony Romo, I really do. He’s hurt again, and he’s 36, and he’s taken a beating over the years. We have all enjoyed the Cowboys being publicly humiliated, and Romo has given us a special joy over the years. But at some point, it needs to end.
