Model autism support on B.C.’s

-

Re ‘Massive change needed in autism support services,’ minister says, Oct.

11 Having witnessed autism as a teacher and friend to many parents and grandparents of children on the autism spectrum, I can only heed the advice gathered from their struggles and frustrations.

Go west to British Columbia, where the education and government systems are perfecting humane and forward-thinking autism education, in home-schooling curriculum, caregiver relief grants and support, accessible early assessments, behaviour intervention programs, therapies, young adult transition programs, etc., within perfect climates, breathtaking scenery and more affordable housing.

Ontario, look at what’s working in another province in Canada and fix this broken, cash-strapped, outdated system as more and more families remain stuck in the autism assessment gridlock. Teresa Gaito, Toronto
