FASHIONABLE RESIDENCES COMING TO CF SHOPS AT DON MILLS
Rodeo Drive Condominiums offers residents luxury and convenience
Walk out your front door, head a few steps down the street, and you’re at the heart of some of the best shopping and dining in the city. Yet you’re not downtown — you’re in Don Mills, at the glamorous CF Shops at Don Mills, with an abundance of popular retailers, first-class restaurants, entertainment and more at your doorstep.
Rodeo Drive Condominiums are the first two towers in a luxurious new multi-phase residential condominium complex by Lanterra Developments and Cadillac Fairview, owner/operator of CF Shops at Don Mills. Located just west of Don Mills Road, south of Lawrence Avenue, Rodeo Drive’s proximity to the mall is one of the huge draws of this site. But location is only one of its perks.
HIGH DESIGN
Mark Mandelbaum, chairman of Lanterra, says the development is designed to offer function, form, luxury and comfort for residents, with a distinctive, visually appealing and modern esthetic that complements the neighbourhood.
“Often, you don’t find the same class of exterior or interior design when you move out of the city core,” he says. “The outside facades in the outskirts of downtown are typically not as glamorous. We wanted this to be a quality development, so we engaged two prominent designers to meet these standards.”
The design team includes the award-winning Hariri Pontarini Architects, a leading architectural firm specializing in urban high-rise and mixed-use developments, and the internationally renowned interiordesign firm of Studio Munge.
Hariri Pontarini Architects’ Ken Lee, project designer for Rodeo Drive, describes the project in ambitious terms. “These buildings will be the tallest in the Don Mills area and they’ll be easy to identify from far away, so we want the effect to be stunning. The look and feel will be modern, elegant and clean, in black and white, with a perforated metal screen at the top, in keeping with the colours, textures and sophistication of the shops of Rodeo Drive in Los Angeles and complementing the CF Shops at Don Mills.”
Perhaps the most prominent and interesting feature will be the “rooftop terrace,” — a party room, gym and outdoor pool/hot tub areas will comprise much of the eighth floor of the taller of the two buildings — overlooking the CF Shops at Don Mills. “We’ll use floor-to-ceiling windows to create a ‘glass box’ effect,” explains Lee. The second building will be a 16-storey tower with an indoor pool, party room and gym on the ground and mezzanine levels; all amenities will be available to residents of both buildings.
ELEGANT AND UNDERSTATED
The interior design, according to Alessandro Munge of Studio Munge, will be timeless, elegant and understated, with soft curves that are sensual, simple and honest. The lobby, for example, will be lined in wood panelling for a look that’s unassuming, not flashy. “Our overall design includes beautiful lines and lighting, organic stone floors with natural movement, light blond walls in wood veneer, white porcelain tiles with gorgeous black veining — looks that are minimal and simple, but expressive in their forms,” Munge says. “We’re creating homes, so we look at who will be living there and give the space a character and personality that residents can relate to.”
Munge says the kitchens at Rodeo Drive are a good example of the overall approach. “We’ve focused on how people use this room, talking to manufacturers to find out how we can do things differently and better. We are creating kitchens that are functional — clean and simple, but with the bells and whistles that buyers have come to expect.”
Don Mills is an area in transition, says Munge. “With all the great neighbourhood amenities, and Rodeo Drive’s modern design and esthetics, we’re seeing an energy and excitement in this project and in the community that we know will attract a variety of buyers.”
