Weise sits three for hit on Holzer

Philadelphia Flyers forward Dale Weise was suspended for three games without pay by the NHL on Friday for an illegal check to the head of Anaheim defenceman Korbinian Holzer. The hit came in the second period of the Flyers’ 3-2 home loss Thursday night. Weise wasn’t called for a penalty at the time. The suspension will cost Weise $39,167. In a video, the league said Weise “unnecessarily extends up and into the head of Holzer, delivering a blow to the head and knocking him to the ice. This is an illegal check to the head.” It wasn’t interference, as the league stated Holzer was eligible to be hit legally.
