Our own Trump vs. Clinton

-

Re Joe Oliver to run for Ontario Tories in 2018, Oct. 25 The Wynne government needs to go — it’s old, stale and lacking in competency and direction. But the Conservatives aren’t exactly filling me with confidence either.

First we got a 19-year-old who’s gotten the nomination for Tim Hudak’s old riding with the backing of the social conservatives who helped Patrick Brown go from nonentity in Ottawa to most likely the next premier of Ontario.

Now we have Joe Oliver leading the charge for defeated Conservative MPs who are now seeking a second go, this time at the provincial level, and who I believe are motivated mostly by the desire to be government MPPs with the perks and privileges that such positions entail. And with conservatives more concerned about rolling back the sex-education curriculum and the antiabortion agenda than addressing issues like rising hydro prices, it’s enough to make you despair.

The Americans have Trump or Clinton; we have Brown or Wynne. Truly the chalice is poisoned. Marc Dodsworth, Peterborough, Ont.
