Top five trucks that stole the auto show

- Stephen Elmer AutoGuide.com

Tons of custom trucks were on display at the 2016 SEMA Show, but there is always a few that catch our attention.

From tiny trucks to massive big rigs, SEMA offers it all. Each truck is more extravagant and outrageous than the last. Check out our five favourites:

5. Mini Austin Cooper Truck First up is this Mini Austin Cooper, sitting outside the SEMA show, acting as a billboard for another car inside — but no thanks, we’d rather stand around and look at this wicked-looking little pickup.

4. Chevy Colorado Hurley Concept Next up is the Chevrolet Hurley Concept. Although it was designed for surfers, this truck’s rear cargo wrack, bed cover, snorkel, lifted stance and off-road tires look like the perfect recipe for an off-road model to us. Plus, those ventriprene seats mean that they will dry out after getting wet.

3. 1988 Peterbilt 379 Our next truck was a best-in-show winner at the Shell Rotila SuperRigs competition this year: this gorgeous 1988 Peterbilt 379. Featuring a Caterpillar engine putting out 750 horsepower, this custom rig has clean style and a nice paint job. Because we all know flames make your car faster.

2. Ram Macho Power Wagon In the second spot, Ram has hit the Power Wagon with the Mopar stick, resulting in the Ram Macho Power Wagon.

The truck is fitted with a number of concept Mopar accessories that outfit it for adventure, including that large Ram Rack in the bed, off-road running boards, fender flares, 21inch LED light bar, a new aggressive hood, a winch and more.

Painted in Macho Mango orange, the truck has an imposing stance thanks to those 37-inch off-road tires fitted to 18-inch beadlock wheels.

As if the Power Wagon wasn’t already awesome enough, Ram has made it even better.

1. Chevy Colorado ZH2 Concept In the top spot this year is the new Chevy ZH2 Concept. This truck is more than just a regular concept though. The U.S. military is considering using the ZH2 in the field and is currently investigating its potential.

It was unveiled over a month ago and even though it wasn’t new to me, the truck is striking to see in person thanks to its big proportions at over 1,981 millimetres tall and 2,133 millimetres wide.

With 37-inch tires, a modified suspension, skid plate protection and tow hooks, it certainly makes it look the part of tough off-roader, but what is truly interesting is what’s under the hood.

The ZH2 has a hydrogen fuel-cell powertrain, which the U.S. military is looking into, thanks to its potential for quiet operation, exportable electricity for powering devices and tools in the field and solid torque performance.
